VPN-1 SecureServer provides
VPN-1/FireWall-1 gateway protection for a single
application server. Like its FireWall-1 counterpart,
VPN-1 SecureServer protects sensitive application
servers against attacks or unauthorized access, while
also enabling end-to-end VPNs in which clients establish
authenticated encrypted connections directly to a
critical server. End-to-end VPNs have two important
applications:
-
Internal Client-Server VPNs in which clients
establish VPN tunnels directly to a local or
remote server, thereby protecting sensitive
traffic from unauthorized access by internal
users
-
Extranet VPNs in which key partners or
customers can establish secure connections
directly with extranet application servers
End-to-end VPNs
encrypt traffic for the entire path between client and
server, as compared to site-to-site VPNs in which
traffic might be left unencrypted for the last segment
of the path between the VPN gateway and the application
server.
Foundation for
VPN-1 SecureClient Policy Servers
VPN-1 SecureServer may be installed
as the foundation for VPN-1 SecureClient Policy Servers.
VPN-1 SecureServer provides a cost-effective way to
fulfill the requirement that machines acting as VPN-1
SecureClient Policy Servers be VPN-enabled. This
capability is especially useful for organizations
deploying two or more Policy Servers in a backup
configuration.
