Policy-based Architecture

VPN-1 SecureClient uses a centralized Policy Server to protect network clients. First, the administrator defines personal firewall policies and Secure Configuration Verification (SCV) requirements. This enables VPN clients to regularly download its security policy and SCV checks from the Policy Server.

VPN-1 SecureClient Policy Servers may be set up in a distributed configuration for increased availability. On the client side, the VPN-1 SecureClient software will automatically connect with an alternate policy server if its primary server is not reachable.
 

Software Distribution and Management

VPN-1 SecureClient includes features to streamline the initial distribution and ongoing maintenance of client software. These features dramatically decrease end-user support costs associated with the VPN, and improve overall security by ensuring that client software installations are always consistent and current.

VPN-1 SecureClient Packaging Tool - The packaging tool enables security administrators to create customized, self-extracting installation packages for their VPN-1 SecureClient users. All VPN-1 SecureClient options may be pre-configured, eliminating the need for the end user to configure any settings at all. Once the user has obtained the software package (either by Web download, email, or physical media distribution), he or she simply runs the executable file and reboots.

 

VPN-1 SecureClient Software Distribution Server (SDS) - After the initial installation, SDS automatically and transparently updates the software on the client machine. All components, including SCV checks, are regularly checked and automatically updated if they are not current.

 

Client-side Diagnostic Tools

To aid administrators in troubleshooting client connection and security issues, VPN-1 SecureClient provides diagnostic tools on the client machine. These tools include log, desktop policy and connection status viewers.
